Official Disney Princesses
The term "Official Disney Princess" has been used to describe the Disney characters that make up the Disney Princess franchise. It in no was describes whether a character is fit to be called a princess or not, nor does it constitute the character being of royal family married or otherwise.
The Disney Princess franchise was started in January 2000. It original contained 6 members, Ariel, Aurora, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine, Mulan, Pocahontas, and Snow White. Since its creation, Disney has added 3 more characters to the franchise, holding each lady a coronation ceremony to officially welcome them. In March 2010 Tiana was the first princess welcomed in this fashion, followed by Rapunzel in 2011, and Pixar's Merida in 2013. It is rumoured that we will see the coronation of both Elsa and Anna in the future, although no official announcement has been made at this time.
